Dr. Richard Horgan is a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with subspecialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine. His clinical areas of interest are obstetric ultrasound, low and high risk pregnancy, fetal growth, placental complications of pregnancy, antenatal care and benign gynaecology.

Dr. Richard Horgan graduated in Medicine from University College Cork in 1998. His specialist registrar training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology was in Ireland. During this time he also completed his PhD Thesis after three years of full-time research into abnormal fetal growth, between University College Cork and the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. He has published and presented his research nationally and internationally. Dr. Horgan has also been involved in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level throughout his career.

His subspecialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine was in Toronto, Canada. Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto is the largest high risk obstetric unit in Canada and the University of Toronto fellowship is considered one of the most prestigious and competitive high-risk training fellowships internationally.

Dr. Horgan commenced as a Consultant Obstetrician Gynaecologist at University Hospital Kerry in 2014. At University Hospital Kerry, Richard led the Perinatal Medicine Team with responsibility for High-Risk and Fetal Medicine Clinics and established a Fetal Medicine service including anatomy scanning. Following setting up this service among others, Richard was recruited as a Maternal Fetal Medicine Consultant by the Rotunda Hospital in 2017. Richard has now returned to Cork and taken up a post as Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Cork University Maternity Hospital. Richard’s clinical practice is undertaken at Cork University Maternity Hospital and at Cork Obstetrics and Gynaecology Associates.

Richard welcomes referrals for pre-conception counselling, prenatal diagnosis and testing, antenatal care, antenatal and gynaecology ultrasound and general gynaecology. He is also delighted to care for healthy mothers and babies.
